Changes in the Business Core and Business minors

The Daniels College of Business has introduced some changes to its undergraduate business core that will take effect in Fall 2004. The changes in the business core also affect the Business Administration minor, which is open only to non-business majors. Three classes are especially appropriate for first-year students:

  • BUS 1040, Strategic Advantages of Technology
  • BUS 1060, Business Environment (counts towards the general business minor)
  • BUS 1080, Leadership & Communicaton (new class)

For non-business students interested in business minors, see Rifkin Center for Student Services, DCB 147, or the specific department to see if that minor is available for students who aren't majoring in a DCB discipline.

One major aspect of the changes to the business core is that the course names and numbers have changed to more accurately reflect the course content and department delivering it. A table below outlines the differences. The courses have also been paired together differently to more accurately reflect the way DCB faculty see them fitting into the curriculum. And sequence in which DCB will expect most students to take the courses has also changed. Important: Part of the changes include a new course, BUS 1080, Leadership and Communication. This course will be REQUIRED for students entering Fall 2004 and later, but students who enter before that SHOULD NOT take this course.

The changes to the Business Administration minor adds a new course, FIN 2800, and drops another, BUS 1040, from the minor.
