Majors & Minors and Special Programs It's rare that a mentor ends up with UDCC students
exclusively in the major in which the mentor teaches. How do you advise
these students? The trick is to learn a little bit about the major divisions
of the University, and to know to whom to refer the student when you
don't know the answers.
Special Programs Many of the students in your UDCC group will be in special programs, including Living Learning Communities, and the Honors Program. Students in these programs wil generally be taking specific courses, about which more can be learned from the program director or coordinator. Partners in Scholarship (PINS, undergraduate research) and Service Learning provide additional opportunities that first-year students might want to prepare for.
