Purchasing
There are two directions you can go with a mobile device.
In the first category are PDAs. These are just organizers, with no phone capabilities. If you only need a PDA, it is up to you which model to choose. These sync when you connect them via USB cord to your computer. Palm is a common brand for these, but there are many others.
The other type is the Smartphone. These combine the use of a PDA with the functions of a cell phone. With a data plan from your provider, Smartphones can wireless sync your email from anywhere that has cell phone coverage. If you go with the Smartphone, we have a few recommendations. Here at DU, a number of staff and faculty are on the Exchange server. An easy way to tell is if you check your email online using WebOutlook, rather than the classic Webmail. (If you are unsure, please ask the Helpdesk at 303-871-4700). Users on Exchange can wirelessly sync all Outlook data with the right phone and the right data plan. This means a calendar entry on your phone will instantly be added to your Outlook.
