Connecting your laptop to Sturm Hall projectors

  1. Before you begin, make sure the projector and laptop are turned off.
  2. Connect the video (VGA) cable.

    The cable which is connected to the cabinet. Connect the other end of cable to the laptop's Video (monitor) port.

    Tighten the screws on both connectors to make sure they are fastened securely.
  3. Connect ethernet cable to access the Internet.
  4. Turn on projector before turning on your laptop.
  5. If computer image does not show on screen, press Fn+F7, Fn+F5, Fn+F8 (depending on your laptop it might be a different function key than listed above).

Connecting your PowerBook to Sturm Hall projectors

  1. Before you begin, make sure the projector and laptop are turned off.
  2. Connect the video (VGA) cable. (You will need the adapter for the
    powerBook to connect to video cable to your laptop)

    The cable which is connected to the cabinet connect the other end to the laptop's Video (monitor) port.

    Tighten the thumbscrews on both connectors to make sure they are fastened securely.
  3. Connect ethernet cable to access the Internet.
  4. Turn on projector before turning on your laptop.
  5. Select control panel.
  6. Select monitor.
  7. Set monitor to mirror (to see on computer screen and LCD panel).

   Note: Image will not show up on panel if projector is off.

What if the computer image does not show up on the screen?

  1. Check to make sure projector is turned on. You should be able to see light coming from the projector lens.
  2. Check to make sure the VGA cable is connected securely to your laptop. and the thumbscrews are tight.
  3. If you still do not see an image, the most likely cause is that the external video port on the laptop is turned off. To turn it on, you need to enter a specific keystroke combination- generally the Fn key plus one of the function keys. This key stroke combination varies from laptop to laptop, so check your laptop manual for details.

How do I connect my laptop to the Internet?

Plug a standard ethernet cable into the laptop's network port and into a working network jack located on the side of the cabinet.

Must I turn the computer and projector off if I connect to a different laptop?

You should turn off the laptop before disconnecting the VGA cable, the projector can stay turned on.

What do I do when I see "sync out of range" on screen?

  1. Right click on desktop.
  2. Select properties and then select the tab Settings.
  3. On the Settings screen set screen resolution to 1024 X 768 and then click ok.
