UTS Policies: Network Access

University Technology Services currently supports or will soon support many different kinds of authenticated access to the University of Denver's data network. Among them are:

  • direct connectivity for on-campus computers
  • wireless connectivity for on-campus computers
  • proxied connectivity for off-campus connections to the DU network
  • dial-up modem access for off-campus connections to the DU network
  • e-mail accounts
  • portal accounts
  • MySite Web Server Accounts (including the ability to post personal web pages)
  • Blackboard accounts

These services are provided to a variety of constituencies including:

  • pre-college students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12
  • undergraduate students
  • graduate students
  • employees
  • retired employees

For a variety of practical reasons, all services are not provided to all constituencies. This web page explains how constituences are defined and how changes are handled as individuals move from one consituency to another.

Constituencies

Active Students

Active students must have an active status in the Banner administrative system. In addition they must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • enrollment in a class in the current term
  • pre-registration for a class in a future term
  • certification for graduate enrollment
  • completion of a class in the previous 200 days

Active Employees

Active employees are defined by Human Resources. This requires that employees have an active status in the Banner administrative system. Departments may pre-activate the Banner status for incoming employees by submitting appropriate paperwork to Payroll. Faculty and adjunct faculty are allowed to keep services for 90 days after the termination date recorded in the Banner system. Staff are allowed to keep services for 30 days after the termination date recorded in the Banner system.

Retired Employees

Retired employees are defined by Human Resources.
