Graduate Application Review-Computer Readiness

Faculty at DU review Graduate applications online.  The program that is used is called webXtender.  It is a PC application, so Mac users will have the best results by working in a Windows Virtual Machine (VM) when reviewing applications.

If you encounter errors at any point in the process, bring your laptop to one of the upcoming UTS Computer Readiness Clinics or contact the UTS Help Center at the Anderson Academic Commons, 303-871-4700.

Following are instructions for making sure your computer is set up for application review.

Not new to online application review?

If you reviewed applications in previous years and you don't have a new computer, you can test to see if everything is ready to go by following these steps:

I have a Windows PC
  1. OFF CAMPUS?  Log in to the Cisco AnyConnect VPN (What's this?)
  2. Open Internet Explorer version 9, 10 or 11 (not Firefox or Chrome)
  3. VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure Internet Explorer's Compatibility View Settings are correct (here's how!)
  4. Log in to PioneerWeb
  5. Select the Faculty tab
  6. Under the Miscellaneous Links heading, select View Grad Applicant Files.
  7. Choose Click here to list all applicants
  8. Select any applicant's ID to open webXtender.
  9. Click View Applicant Documents in WebXtender.
  10. User Name: Enter your DU username (usually your first initial, part of your last name, and maybe a number, up to 8 characters)  Not sure?  Ask the UTS Help Center 303-871-4700
  11. Password:  Enter your webXtender password.  If you've forgotten your password, click Cancel on the Login screen, and select Change webXtender passcode on the Graduate Admissions Applicant Review window.
  12. Once you successfully log in, if you have a navigation toolbar on the top of the window, you are ready to review applications. (Don't see a toolbar?  Here's the fix!)
I have a Mac

WebXtender does not function properly on a Mac. You will have the best results if you use a Windows Virtual Machine (VM)

  1. Log in to VMWare View-Shared Desktops-Banner (installing VMWare Instructions)
  2. Open Internet Explorer (not Firefox or Chrome)
  3. Log in to PioneerWeb
  4. Select the Faculty tab
  5. Under the Miscellaneous Links heading, select View Grad Applicant Files.
  6. Choose Click here to list all applicants
  7. Select any applicant's ID to open webXtender.
  8. Click View Applicant Documents in WebXtender.
  9. User Name: Enter your DU username (usually your first initial, part of your last name, and maybe a number, up to 8 characters) Not sure? Call the UTS Help Center 303-871-4700
  10. Password: Enter your webXtender password. If you've forgotten your password, click Cancel on the Login screen, and select Change webXtender passcode on the Graduate Admissions Applicant Review window.

New computer OR reviewing grad applications online for the first time at DU?

If you have a new computer or are reviewing Grad Applications online for the first time at DU, you will need to complete some computer setup steps.

I have a Windows PC

PC users have two options regarding how to access the online applications. You can either work on a "Virtual Machine (VM)" which is preconfigured for faculty reviewers, or you can configure your own computer manually. UTS and the Office of Graduate Studies recommend using the VM so you do not have to change your browser setting and risk affecting other applications.  If you do choose to use the VM, do not save anything to the desktop as it will be deleted when you log off.

Option 1: RECOMMENDED PRACTICE! Install VMWare View and review applications on a preconfigured "virtual" computer

HAVE YOU REQUESTED SYSTEM ACCESS?

Step 1: One-time only, install VMWare View (installation instructions)

Step 2: Review Applications

  1. Double-click the VMWare View desktop icon
  2. Connection Server: remotepc.du.edu—Connect

  4. Password: Enter the password you use to log in to your computer
  5. Domain: select either CAIR or DU (Not sure? Try them both.)
  6. Select: Shared Desktops—Banner—Connect
  7. Open Internet Explorer (not Firefox or Chrome)
  8. Log in to PioneerWeb
  9. Select the Faculty tab
  10. Under the Miscellaneous Links heading, select View Grad Applicant Files.
  11. Choose Click here to list all applicants
  12. Select any applicant's ID to open webXtender.
  13. Click View Applicant Documents in WebXtender.
  14. User Name: Enter your DU username (usually your first initial, part of your last name, and maybe a number, up to 8 characters) Not sure? Ask the UTS Help Center 303-871-4700
  15. Password:  Enter your webXtender password.  If you've forgotten your password, click Cancel on the Login screen, and select Change webXtender passcode on the Graduate Admissions Applicant Review window.
