Her teaching interests include marital and family communication, personal relationships, conflict and communication, and quantitative research methods. Her research interests focus on communication among later-life couples, conflict among later-life couples and the construction of intimacy among married couples that have survived the Holocaust. She is presently completing a book on ways in which later life couples construct their relational stories, which will be published by Allyn and Bacon. Her work appears in Handbook of Marriage and the Family (2nd Ed.), Southern Communication Journal , Qualitative Research Reports in Communication , and the Journal of Applied Communication Research . She is also a past chair of the Family Communication Division of the National Communication Association. Fran is currently completing a certificate in marriage and family therapy. |

Sarah Pessin, Ph.D. |
Sarah Pessin is Associate Professor at the University of Denver, where she joined the Department of Philosophy and the Center for Judaic Studies in fall 2004. The faculty advisor for the Wellness minor, Sarah works on various topics in Jewish and Islamic philosophy, mysticism, and poetry, Neoplatonisms, and medieval philosophy, comparative philosophies of religion, as well as on topics in health and healing and cross-cultural dialogue. In addition to her courses in Judiac Studies and Philosophy, Sarah teaches a First Year Seminar on body modification and tattooing, as well as a CORE class on Health and Healing, and a writing intensive service learning CORE class called "Social Response" in which students work on projects with Project Angel Heart and Denver Urban Gardens. Sarah is also a certified composter with Denver Urban Gardens, and you can sometimes find her leading composing classes at farmers markets and other sites around town. In her free time, she attends (and sometimes participates in!) poetry slams. She also likes riding her bike along the Platte River.
