Mission

The Wellness Living and Learning Community is an engaged community that fosters well-being through academic and personal journeys of wellness.  This Living and Learning Community seeks to inspire a life-long commitment to physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, social, and community wellness.

The Wellness LLC was designed to promote personal growth and development. It is based on the belief that wellness is a life-long process of continuous improvement.

Each quarter of your first year, you'll take a two-credit class on the various aspects of wellness. You'll learn more about the dimensions of wellness and you'll discover how to live well in the challenging 21st century. Topics may include physical and mental wellness, global issues of health, and wellness and spiritual aspects of wellness. If you decide to pursue an interdisciplinary minor in wellness, you can apply credits from these courses toward your goal.

You will also sign a wellness-living contract and commit to making healthful decisions while part of the living and learning community. To make the process easier, upper-class Wellness students will mentor you and DU's Student Health Services Center and the Ritchie Center will provide special nutrition, physical conditioning, and stress and lifestyle management consultation sessions.

"Health is not simply the

absence of sickness."

- Hannah Green

The Program:
    • For the 2006-2007 school year, the Wellness Living-Learning Community will reside in Centennial Hall.
    • Students sign a Wellness LLC living contract, signifying that they will make healthy decisions in the six key areas of wellness.
    • After their first year, Wellness LLC students may choose to live in the brand-new Nelson Hall (if they meet all the necessary requirements). This gorgeous building offers suite-style living options and a special section just for the Wellness LLC. Students will have the option of working in wellness-related internships and service programs for academic credit. Sophomores may also become peer educators in order to fulfill their academic component of the Living and Learning housing option.

    • The dining halls in Centennial & Nelson Halls offer low-fat food choices as well as nutritional information for all dishes.

    • Wellness LLC staff plan several off-campus retreats and events for Wellness LLC residents each school year. The goal of these programs is to build camaraderie, inspire learning, and promote teamwork.

    • Upcoming events include dinners, plays, speakers, workshops, and retreats in the Rocky Mountains.

    • Past retreats have included the following activities: ropes course, hiking, skiing, white water rafting--all for the promotion of wellness!
