72-Hour Fiction Writing Contest
Rules and Application Form
Rules:
1. You will be given 72-hours to complete a piece of fiction of 20-50
pages. This writing project works on an honors system. It is designed to
develop your creative skills.
2. Outlines are permitted, but the actual writing of the fiction piece
must not begin before midnight, Friday, January 18 and must stop at
midnight, Monday, January 21, 2008.
3. Fiction pieces may not be edited after the time has elapsed. You
will have until noon on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, to deposit your
manuscript in a manila envelope with this application sheet attached.
The collection box is in 202 Penrose in the Writing Center.
4. You may use any genre, location, or method to write this piece.
Collaborations are permitted. Again, the contest works on an honors
system.
5. Manuscripts will not be returned. Winners will be announced by
February 1, 2008. The first prize winner will be published in the
Writing Program Newsletter. First Prize: $75; Second Prize: $50;
Third Prize $25. Winners will be asked to read a portion of their
fiction pieces at a Writing Program Poetry Jam in the winter or early
spring.
6. Please fill out the information listed below and staple this page to
your manuscript. Note that you are asked to include a statement signed
by a witness to confirm that the fiction entry was written over the
assigned 72-hour period.
