Making and Printing Research Posters: A Workshop

"How do I design, create, and print a poster for a poster session?"

Some DU students, especially in the sciences, receive training and support for creating posters for conference sessions. However, many DU students, especially in the humanities and social sciences, have little or no experience or help available. We've created a two-part workshop designed to show all students, in all subjects, how to present their work in a poster session. Students presenting at the Undergraduate Research Symposium or the COMPosium should find the workshop especially useful and timely.

We recommend you attend Workshop 1 and 2, or if you can't attend both, attend workshop 3, which will combine most of the elements from the other two workshops.

Workshop #1: Translating Complex Ideas into Effective Posters

Tuesday, April 30, 2013 4:00 to 5:00 pm
Topics to include:

What is a research poster?
Foregrounding your argument
Distilling complex findings into a concise visual and textual display
Basic software advice

Workshop #2: Designing and Displaying Effective Posters

Friday, May 3, 2013 12:00 to 1:00 pm
Topics to include:

Assembling your poster with attention to size, color, and readability
Software tips
Editing and revising your poster
Printing and displaying

Workshop #3: Understanding, Designing, and Creating Undergraduate Research Posters

Wednesday, May 1, 2013 4:00 to 6:00 pm

This two hour workshop will combine many of the elements addressed in Workshop #1 and Workshop #2. This is intended for those students who can not attend both Workshop #1 and Workshop #2.
