B.A. in Gender and Women's Studies (second major required)

Minor in Gender and Women's Studies

Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Gender and Women's Studies requires a minimum of 40 quarter hours and a second major. General requirements for a major or minor in Gender and Women's Studies are listed below. 

Major in Gender and Women's Studies

GWST 2000 "Introduction to Gender and Women’s Studies" (4 quarter hours).

Participation in the Gender and Women’s Studies Colloquium series (three quarters for a total of six quarter hours). A different two-credit course is offered each quarter. Students may take the colloquium courses at any point during their degree program. 

Two Gender and Women’s Studies courses in the Arts and Humanities (6 - 10 quarter hours).

Two Gender and Women’s Studies courses in the Social Sciences (6 - 10 quarter hours).

Minor in Gender and Women's Studies

A minor in Gender and Women’s Studies requires 20 quarter hours.

GWST 2000 "Introduction to Gender and Women’s Studies" (4 quarter hours).

Majors and Minors in Gender and Women's Studies

▪ No overlap of credit

Only one course from a student's other major department will be accepted for either the Gender and Women's Studies major or minor.

No course may count simultaneously toward a major and a minor. 

For both the major and the minor, the remaining credit hours can be selected from any course approved by the Gender and Women’s Studies program. 

Opportunities for Majors

In addition to the personal and intellectual growth derived from Gender and Women's Studies courses, there are many practical applications of this field. University of Denver students combine Gender and Women's Studies with another major; this combination can lead to careers that focus on business, medicine, politics and government, law, literatures, education, economic development, social work, family issues, and psychology, as well as careers for clergy, historians, archivists, and artists.
