Undergraduate Women’s Council

UWC provides a medium for discussion and support in areas that affect DU undergraduate women.  Objectives include supporting undergraduate women at DU; making connections with other DU women’s groups; focusing on health and safety issues; focusing on education and classroom issues; and focusing on empowerment.

About Face

About-Face is a media literacy organization focused on the impact mass media has on the physical, mental and emotional well being of women and girls. Through practical and activist methods we challenge our culture's overemphasis on physical appearance.

Feminist.com is a grassroots, interactive community by, for and about women. We aim to facilitate information-sharing among women and encourage mobilization around political issues. 

This is a really great site for online activism.  Check out "Ask Amy" and sign up for their listserve.

Feminist Majority Foundation

The Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF), which was founded in 1987, is a cutting edge organization dedicated to women's equality, reproductive health, and non-violence. In all spheres, FMF utilizes research and action to empower women economically, socially, and politically.

FMF is known for their great work for and with Afghan women.  

Feminist International Radio Endeavor

FIRE is the first women's internet radio.  It works to disseminate women's voices in all their diversity, so that they can be heard by men and women around the world, crossing barriers of nationality, culture, race, geography and language, and contributing to bridging the gender gap.  FIRE's programs address diverse themes from a gendered perspective, including neo-liberal policies, women's human rights, the environment, racism, disabilities, militarism, sexualities, education, arts and culture. 

Special thanks to Margie Thompson for recommending this wonderful site!  The unique thing about this site is the extensive archive of audio clips and interviews from women around the world on a variety of issues.

The Guerrilla Girls are a group of women artists, writers, performers and film makers who fight discrimination.

Making Face, Making Soul--A Chicana Feminist Homepage

This site deals with women's issues, family issues, racial and ethnic issues, women of color issues, working class issues, sexuality issues, and youth issues. This is a place where everybody can learn from Chicana experiences.  

National Organization for Women

NOW is dedicated to making legal, political, social and economic change in our society in order to achieve our goal, which is to eliminate sexism and end all oppression. The purpose of NOW is to take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now, exercising all privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly equal partnership with men.

NOW works on reproductive rights, violence against women, racism, homophobia and ending discrimination against women.

South Asian Women for Action

SAWA organizes and encourages dialogue across lines of age, class, sexuality, race, religion and language; articulates what it means to be living as South Asian women in the United States; gives our experiences political and creative expressions through a variety of media like visual art, theater, and writing; and speaks out and strategizes against all kinds of discrimination.

Third Wave Foundation

Third Wave is the only national activist philanthropic organization for young women between the ages of 15 and 30.  Through grantmaking, networking and public education, Third Wave informs and empowers a generation of young women activists.  

Their idea is for young feminists to pledge a dollar amount equal to their age.  What a great idea!  And check out their "I Spy Sexism" campaign. 

V-Day

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a palpable energy, a fierce catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.  

The Women of Color Web

The Women of Color Web is dedicated to providing access to writings by and about women of color in the U.S. We focus specifically on issues related to feminisms, sexualities, and reproductive health and rights…The site also provides links to organizations, discussion lists, and academic tools concerned specifically with women of color.

Women Leaders Online

WLO is first and largest women's activist group on the internet -- empowering women in politics, media, society, the economy and cyberspace.  

Women's Action for New Directions

WAND's mission is to empower women to act politically to reduce violence and militarism, and redirect excessive military resources toward unmet human and environmental needs. WAND is the only national peace organization linking women legislators across the country with local women activists as well as women in Congress in order to address issues of militarism, violence and human needs.  

WAND has great weekly e-mail bulletin boards about issues of peace and justice.  They also have lots of great info on the site.  

Women's Institute for Freedom of the Press

WIFP is a research, education, and publishing organization founded to increase communication among women and reach the public with our experience, perspectives, and opinions. Women's contributions to society must be heard and be taken into account if democracy is to function and the world's political decisions are to be viable.

Women's International League for Peace and Freedom

WILPF works to achieve through peaceful means world disarmament, full rights for women, racial and economic justice, an end to all forms of violence, and to establish those political, social, and psychological conditions which can assure peace, freedom, and justice for all.
