Office of Academic Innovation

Igniting Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration

The Office of Academic Innovation (OAI) facilitates the creation of cross-disciplinaryexperiential and community-connected projects and learning opportunities at DU.  Led by Chief Innovation Officer Martin Katz, the office connects community members from all across campus and develops systems that facilitate partnerships between faculty, staff, students and our neighbors in Denver and beyond.

Enhancing the Value of a DU Education

Our students will spend their professional lives solving problems that we have not even imagined. We can prepare them for meaningful careers by giving them opportunities to learn to solve complex, real world problems in highly functional, cross-disciplinary teams with strong faculty mentorship.

OAI will connect cross-disciplinary teams of faculty and students with community partners to work collaboratively on complex challenges, with the goals of...

  • educating our students.
  • training the workforce of the future.
  • solving important problems in our local and global community.

Our Method

  • Community Icon

Catalyze. Build excitement around possibilities and the case for cross-disciplinary work.

  • Bridge

Connect. Help faculty identify and meet others across campus with similar interests, and to connect with potential community partners.

  • Car

Accelerate. Help faculty and students realize their goals for cross-disciplinary programming.

    • Navigate Current DU Systems
    • Change DU Systems
    • Create New Systems/Platforms
    • Curricular Design Studio/Skunkworks

DU Connect

  • Services

    Online System

Connecting the DU community and external audiences alike, DU Connect's online presence will facilitate cross-campus collaboration and problem-based learning opportunities. The system, currently in the testing phase, automatically searches multiple DU databases containing faculty research, biographies, publications, courses and more, allowing faculty members to find potential collaborators. Eventually, it will allow collaborations with students, staff and community members, catalyzing powerful problem-solving teams to address complex problems in our community.

    Pop-Up Faculty Clubs

OAI hosts moving, pop-up faculty events around topics of shared interest at DU. Past topics include American politics, healthcare and leadership. If you have a suggestion for a future pop-up event or would like to be notified of future events, please email Jessica Neumann.
