Provost Conference: Summit on Shared Governance
February 21, 2020
The Provost Conference: Summit on Shared Governance provides an opportunity to think together about shared governance, why it matters, and how we elevate our practices at the University of Denver. Shared governance is multi-layered and complicated, and particularly important in turbulent times in higher education.
We will focus our conversations on structures, processes, and practices that enhance equity, decision-making, and accountability—evaluating where we are in shared governance and where we aspire to be. In the morning sessions, we will take a deep dive into shared governance and next steps at DU from the perspective of the faculty, administrators, Board of Trustees, staff, students, and various intersections thereof. We will do all of this with the DU vision in mind—asking how do we approach, implement, and practice shared governance in a way that honors our dedication to the public good? In the afternoon, we will focus on special topics identified by the respective governing bodies.
Shared governance is not simply an idea, nor is it something achieved in a single day, but is a daily practice. This summit is a critical conversation that will be a part of a longer process of considering how we practice it and where we can improve for the benefit of all.
You are vital to this conversation. Join us.
