Prospective Students

Do you have a Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Interior Design…  program?

No. We are strictly a school of fine art.

Can I start as a BFA Studio Art Major?

No. All students that want to study studio art start as BA Art majors, then apply to the BFA Studio Art major after completing the Foundation Art Classes under the guidance of their major adviser.

Do I need to submit a portfolio for admission to the undergraduate BA  Art program?

No.  After being accepted to DU art majors are given instructions on submitting a portfolio if they want to be considered for art scholarships.

Are scholarships available for art majors?

Current Students

How do I declare an art major?

Stop by the art office or email Jason Kellermeyer to discuss the major. Then fill out the change of major form and submit it to the art office.

I want to register for an Independent Study.

Studio Faculty are not required to take on Independent Study students, but do so on top of their course load and other commitments for those students who show promise. Only the most exceptional applicants will be considered. Please see the Independent Study guidelines for more details. Please fill out this form to register for Independent Study.

Can I receive credit for an internship?

Yes, if an internship at a museum, gallery, studio, or corporate collection is intended to enable you to achieve practical experience with art in a business or museum setting. It should be a rewarding and constructive experience for both the student and the mentor/supervisor at the internship site. Please see the SAAH internship guidelines for more information.

How do I offer an internship?

The School of Art & Art History defines an internship as an educational experience that a student engages in for school credit. An internship is not free labor. If you have an opportunity,  email the description to Jason.kellermeyer@du.edu  to be sent out to the students.

Does the School of Art & Art History appraise works of art?

No.
