This degree is available with a Museum Studies Concentration.

Course Requirements: total 56 credits (quarter hours)

  • ARTH 4301 Seminar in Art History Methods (4 credits)
  • ARTH 4302 Research Practicum (4 credits)
  • 3 art history topics seminars (12 credits)
  • 8 art history electives, including pre-1700 periods and diverse cultures (32 credits)

Other Requirements

  • Qualifying exam taken before first week of classes
  • Reading ability in second language equivalent to 4th semester/6thquarter college class
  • Advancement to Candidacy

Annual Art History Student Symposium

An annual tradition in the Art History department is the Student AH Symposium, which takes place in the spring.  Eight to ten students are selected to present their research to an audience of their peers and the art history faculty.  Undergraduates and graduates participate, and two students are chosen to represent the department at the annual regional symposium at the Denver Art Museum.


Our alumni have gone on to complete PhDs in the following programs:
