Professor Sims’s scholarship centers on critical rhetorical and cultural practices, specifically focusing on discourses of collective memory related to colonialism and marginalized raced and gendered identities. Another strain of her scholarship focuses on higher education pedagogy, developing communication-based activities for undergraduate classes. She teaches classes such as Foundations of Communication, Social Movement Rhetoric, Rhetorical Criticism, Advanced Intercultural Communication, and special topics courses about Native rhetorics of social movements, how collective memory shapes narratives of history and colonialism, and the role of places and memory in shaping identities and pursuing social justice. Her work appears in Review of Communication, Communication Teacher, Communication Currents, and the Journal of Emotional Abuse.
