Graduate Studies

The Office Of Graduate Education manages applications from students who want to complete graduate work with the Department of Communication Studies.

The priority deadline for the Communication Studies M.A. is January 15th and Ph.D. is December 15th.  We allocate our financial aid awards to applicants who apply by these deadlines. After that time, we continue to process applications as long as space is available.

Potential sources of funding for graduate students include Dean's Hours and Graduate Teaching Instructorships. In addition, all accepted students are automatically considered for the following departmental scholarships, based on eligibility. PLEASE NOTE: a separate application is NOT necessary to be considered for these awards.

  • The Elwood Murray Fund for Speech Communications is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students working in language behavior and interpersonal communication.
  • The Emma Price Murray Scholarship supports undergraduate or graduate students with interest in relational and family communication.
  • The Martha Lahaie Scholarship is awarded yearly to graduate students in Human Communication Studies.
  • The Communication Studies Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate Communication Studies students.
  • The Lorenzini Graduate Scholarship is awarded by the Dean and supports graduate students in the Department of Communication Studies. Scholarship recipients are designated as Lorenzini Scholars.
  • The Vocate Scholarship is a merit based, annual award, for graduate students in Communication Studies.
