How did you become interested in studying Economics?
I became interested in economics while pursuing a doctorate of pharmacy and changed my direction of study.  Economics provided an intellectually stimulating approach to studying social phenomena that affect our daily lives such as wages, employment, and growth.

Why did you choose to get an MA degree at DU?
I knew I wanted to study at a heterodox institution and the faculty, staff, and students at DU were very personable and welcoming.

What made you decide to pursue a Ph.D.?
The classes at DU piqued my interest, as well as faculty members encouraging me to further pursue economics.

What knowledge and skills that you picked up in our MA program have proven most valuable to you in the program you are now enrolled in?
There are two skills that DU fostered that have personally proven incredibly beneficial in pursuing a Ph.D.: 1)The classes at DU, especially microeconomics, taught me how to appropriately study to fully understand, and master, economic concepts.  2) The faculty at DU demonstrate how to critically approach economic theory and actively encourage students to do so.

What did you enjoy most about the program at DU?
My favorite aspect of DU was the camaraderie between faculty members and students.  Faculty members always make time to talk about ideas with students.

What unique aspect of our program do you most appreciate now?
I appreciate that faculty members encouraged critical discussions of theories without forcing any specific viewpoint upon the student.

What was your favorite Class at DU?
Marxian Political Economy.

What advice would you give to someone considering getting an MA in Economics from DU?
Get to know your peers and faculty members. They will encourage you, challenge you, and help you succeed in your studies while at DU and beyond.
