Estlow Center for International Journalism and New Media

Research Projects

The Estlow Center serves as the platform for several research projects that consider the relationship between media and social change. Research endeavors by Media, Film and Journalism Studies faculty have explored the role of digital and mobile media in the lives of families and in the news-consumption habits of young people; the possibilities for collaboration and cross-cultural understanding made possible through new media platforms; and the development of (and struggles over) cultural pluralism as evidenced in popular cultural and news media forms. In the earliest days of online journalism, the Center also sponsored research into how people followed news online, research that became influential in the design of online news formats. Today, the Estlow Center continues to emphasize the role of research in informing ethical and compassionate decision-making about media among a variety of constituents.
