Graduate (MA)

  1. Completion of an appropriate undergraduate degree or the equivalent, or in exceptional cases, a superior score on the Lamont School of Music entrance examination in music theory.
  2. Completed application, including transcript(s), three letters of recommendation, and statement of purpose for graduate study in this degree program. Please include a list of your theory teachers and the textbooks assigned for their theory courses in your statement.

The document should be submitted via upload through the online application process.
  4. Submission of scores on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or comparable graduate standardized test as part of the application process. Your application will not be processed until your scores have been received. 5. Please submit, along with your other materials, a 5-10 minute video of your teaching—either a single student or a group. Videos should be uploaded through the online application system.

    1. Please submit the syllabi from your undergraduate theory courses.
    2. Please ask your recommenders to comment on your teaching abilities, or potential.
    3. Note that we may ask candidates for GTA positions to take a keyboard and sight-reading test via Skype.
