Lamont School of Music

A Message from the Director

The Lamont School of Music is a special place. It is a community of exceptional performers, scholars and composers, an outstanding professional staff and gifted, engaged students. Through undergraduate and graduate degrees, artist diplomas and certificate programs, music students at Lamont enjoy the benefits of a comprehensive music program that challenges and nurtures – all within the Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts, an exceptional, state-of-the-art facility.

The breadth of our offerings includes music from the Western art music tradition, other world cultures, jazz and study in recording technology & production. Performance, composition, jazz studies, recording engineering, music theory, musicology, conducting, music as a second major or a minor in music: these courses of study shape a remarkably rich curriculum. A dazzling plethora of large and small ensembles offers many performing opportunities across the musical spectrum.

There is much to discover about the Lamont School of Music, from its renowned faculty to a performance calendar of more than 300 annual concerts and events. I invite you to learn more about us by browsing our website, watching our videos online, joining us on social media, attending a concert or planning a visit.
