Greg Brown

Greg Brown

Greg Brown toured the U.S. And Europe for two decades as a member of The United States Air Force Band, Washington DC, and the US Air Force Academy Band. From concerts for literally millions of people, to performances for four presidents and numerous heads of state, to extensive recordings of band and chamber music, Air Force bands provided a wealth of music experience and insight. He has appeared as concerto soloist with the Air Force Band and with the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs. An active recitalist, his solo and chamber performances include at four conventions of the International Double Reed Society, at the Anderson House, Washington DC, University of Colorado, Colorado State University Fort Collins, Colorado College and the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. The musical collaboration and exciting demands of chamber music is his first love and he has always been a member of chamber groups throughout his career. He was invited to join the Academy Band's Rampart Winds quintet, was a founding member of the Chinook Quintet in Colorado Springs and the Atlantic Winds in Washington DC and now performs with his own group, the Crystal Creek Ensemble. Orchestral experience includes the San Bernardino Symphony, Redlands Symphony, Alexandria Symphony, National Gallery Orchestra, Annapolis Chamber Orchestra, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Boulder Philharmonic and the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs.

Greg, and his wife Nancy Brown (oboe and English horn) are music entrepreneurs. They are founders and owners of Crystal Creek Music, a comprehensive music business focusing on performances, teaching, and woodwind repairs. Greg is an accomplished hammered dulcimer player in addition to bassoon, and performances of the Crystal Creek Ensemble will include everything from Celtic and old-time Appalachian tunes, to Renaissance and World music traditions, to classical chamber music. Greg is a master teacher, and every lesson with a student brings a convergence of his extensive performance and professional experience, four decades of teaching students at all levels, and his dedication to each student, all tailored to that student's goals and abilities. Former students are now performing and teaching professionally, and current students are placed in various state honor bands and orchestras. In addition, Greg is a sought-after woodwind repair technician, with years of experience and training starting in the Air Force and continuing in Washington DC and along the Front Range of Colorado.

Greg received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Redlands, and the Master of Music from Boston University. His teachers include Ken Munday, John Steinmetz, Sherman Walt, Lou Skinner and Milan Turkovic while studying at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
