Honoring Bob Yablans

Bob Yablans

The University of Denver has lost a dear colleague, alum and friend. Bob Yablans, senior research support specialist for Information Technology (IT) and former director of engineering for the School of Communication and then the Department of Media, Film, and Journalism Studies (MFJS), passed away on the morning of March 10, 2015.

Yablans graduated from DU in 1985 with a BA in Mass Communication, and specialized in film and TV production.

In his sixteen-year career at DU, Bob served as Director of Engineering for the School of Communication and then the Department of Media, Film, and Journalism Studies, overseeing the film and video production and post-production operations.

He also consulted with other DU units, including Emergent Digital Practices, School of Art and Art History, The Clarion , and other Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS) departments.

He always made himself available to anyone at DU with a tech question – faculty, staff and students alike. He was constantly researching new technology and trends, and served as an innovative and forward-thinking leader for the university.

In a recent interview for a MFJS newsletter story, Yablans was quoted as saying, “When you’re passionate about what you do, everything becomes a lot easier. Working for DU and MFJS makes my job enjoyable, and it makes me excited to come to work everyday and be happy.”

Bob was loved by many across DU, and his memory and influence lives on. He’ll be remembered for his passion, enthusiasm and relentless dedication to his work.
