BA, Strategic Communication, 2014
Development & Special Events Coordinator, Bridges to Prosperity

Q: What did you study at DU?
A: Strategic Communication, I really liked the event planning aspect of the major. I have always had an interest in event planning. I volunteered and planned my sorority chapter's regional conference trip to get more event experience.

Q: What was your favorite class at DU?
A: Global & Multicultural Campaigns with Professor Erika Polson.
This is the class that brought a lot of what we were learning together. I would've taken it again if I could have.

Q: How did you get connected with your current role?
A: I started as a special events intern with Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) in spring 2013, and eventually transitioned into a full time position after graduation, in summer 2014. On my first day, I met the founder and everyone involved with the organization. I was impressed by how much they cared about our work and B2P.

Q: Describe your role at Bridges.
A: I plan events, and support development and communication efforts. It is an interesting process to learn how to produce impact through events and communications planning. Now, I am starting to look into donor trips, and recently planned our board retreat in Panama.

Q: How do you draw on what you learned at DU in your current role?
A: I'm using the skills I learned at DU to develop and implement social media strategy, and also media outreach. My job is to synthesize and communicate the results of our programs, the impact we're making in an understandable way.

Q: In what areas would you like to grow?
A: I would like to expand my fundraising experience, and work on and plan more fundraising campaigns.

Q: What advice would you share with current students?
A: Look at the featured internship opportunities posted on the MFJS web site, and apply for roles that interest you, and would help you grow your career.
