Professional Biography

My research primarily involves investigating the causes and effects of stereotypes about gender and race in our society. I am particularly interested in investigating how stereotypes targeting women and African Americans contribute to their underrepresentation in a variety of academic disciplines. In conducting my research, I hope to (1) raise awareness to harmful beliefs and biases pervading our society, and (2) ultimately improve gender and racial diversity in higher education.

My chief passion involves teaching and working with enthusiastic students. I have engaged in fruitful and exciting collaborations with students on numerous research projects, and have taught a variety of introductory and advanced courses in general psychology, child psychology, research methods, statistics, and more. These experiences have together been the most enjoyable and productive aspects of my academic career. I am always open to mentoring, advising, and collaborating with students on research projects.
