Advising

Once you've been accepted, you will be assigned a faculty advisor within the department. Your advisor helps you review your degree progress and we encourage you to meet with them each quarter.

To find your advisor:

  5. A list of your available advisors will appear

Financial Aid

We have plenty of ways to help you supplement the cost of your tuition. Scholarships and grants are determined by your financial aid application, are need- and merit-based and are applied directly to your cost of tuition. Additionally, you can consider borrowing loans to fund your education and we will help you consider how to repay the loans responsibly. You can also apply for work-study opportunities that help you earn money for educational expenses while developing real-world skills.

Global MA Degree in Religious Studies

The Religious Studies Global Master’s Program is an academic partnership between the Religious Studies Department at the University of Denver and the Center for Theology and Religious Studies at Lund University, Sweden. It offers a 5-year (3+2) dual degree opportunity for students to extend a study abroad experience and earn a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies.

Students who enroll in the Global Master’s Program will earn a BA from the University of Denver with a religious studies major, and a MA in religious studies from Lund University.

  • Application

    Application Requirements

    1. Students must be majoring in religious studies and have a 3.5 GPA in the major
    2. Students must apply by the 3rd week of the spring quarter of their sophomore year
    3. Students must submit a complete application
    4. Once accepted by DU faculty, students will meet with Lund faculty members via Skype, to discuss the program in more detail

     

    Once accepted, students must maintain their 3.5 major GPA through their junior year, or until they depart for Lund. Students must apply through the DU Office of International Education for the study abroad year at Lund. Students must apply to Lund University for the final / MA year.

    Application timeline:

    Spring quarter, sophomore year

    • meet with program advisor by Week 1
    • submit application by Week 3
    • faculty reviews application by Week 5
    • submit any needed revisions by Week 7

     

    Fall quarter, junior year

    • Apply for the Lund study abroad year through the DU Office of International Education
  • About Lund University

    Founded in 1666, Lund University ranks in the top 0.4% of universities around the world in terms of its research and education. In 2019, it was ranked #88 in US News' Best Global Universities.

    Lund is a city of approximately 100,000 residents in the south of Sweden, about a 30 minute train ride from Copenhagen, Denmark.

    Lund University's Center for Theology and Religious Studies has a robust, interdisciplinary faculty cohort, with a large graduate (MA and PhD) program. Its foci range from Biblical Studies to History of Religions, from Religious Behavioral Science to Islamology.

    Like most European universities, studying at Lund involves less time spent in class and more time independently engaging in assigned reading and research than is typical at US universities. Successful students will be able to self-manage their schedule to complete work with less direct supervision than is typical at US universities.

    First Three Years at DU

    • 8 courses in RLGS — major requirements, minus electives (32 credits)
    • All common curriculum requirements
    • All minor requirements OR all requirements for a second major
    • INTZ 2501 (2 credits) during junior year
    • 3.5+ overall GPA 
    • Apply for Global Masters in RLGS
    • 135 credits at DU

     

    Fourth Year at Lund University

    • Complete 60 credit hours (transfers as 48 DU credits) of CTR and SAS courses, including 10 Lund credit hours (8 DU credit hours) for RLGS elective course credit
    • Apply for Lund MA program.
    • Earn BA from DU with a major in religious studies (total of 183 credits)

     

    Fifth Year at Lund University

    • Complete 60 credits of CTR and/or RRE courses and a Master's thesis
    • Earn MA in religious studies from Lund University
