We work with Metro Denver community members to create safe community spaces where people can build lives with more opportunities to thrive. Our vision is that all people in Metro Denver have the power, access, and freedom to lead the lives they want. We focus on projects that use strategies and approaches that others can adopt and adapt.

Safe Parking

The Barton Institute serves as the fiscal sponsor for the Colorado Safe Parking Initiative, a community-driven nonprofit organization working to create a Metro Denver network of safe, legal parking locations for individuals and families sheltering in vehicles because they are experiencing homelessness.

Village Institute

The Barton Institute serves as the fiscal sponsor for The Village Institute, a live/learn/work center for single-mother refugee families. This holistic model brings housing, language learning, childcare, job readiness workshops, and mental health services under one roof.

Commún

The Barton Institute serves as the fiscal sponsor for Commún, an organization that works in southwest Denver to build community resilience through relationships and programs that center community voice, cultivate a sense of belonging, and realize equity.

Warm Cookies of the Revolution

Warm Cookies of the Revolution engages community members in crucial civic issues by creating innovative and fun arts and cultural programs. We are a Civic Health Club, making the questions “What do we want?” and “How do we get there?” necessary, participatory, just, and fun.

Colorado Village Collaborative

The Barton Institutes supports Colorado Village Collaborative as it works to develop Denver’s first tiny homes communities for people experiencing homelessness, offering a ground-breaking alternative for people not well-served by the shelter system.
