Construction on Community Commons & First-Year Residence Hall Begins

In January 2019, Saunders Construction will start major construction operations on the University of Denver Community Commons and First Year Residence Hall projects. The remaining homes located near the southeast corner of South High Street and East Asbury Avenue will be demolished first, followed by the Driscoll North building. After demolition is complete, construction crews will begin soil excavation operations. Saunders is committed to recycling and reclaiming materials wherever possible.
Please note there will be sidewalk closures along East Evans Avenue next to the existing Driscoll North building from mid-January to the end of March 2019. Pedestrian crossings will be open along South High Street and South University Avenue. The Driscoll Bridge will close for the duration of construction on the new Community Commons building.
A community information meeting will be held later this month to answer questions about the project and meet the construction team.
Aspen Hall Demolition Begins

Demolition of Aspen Hall began Tuesday, Dec. 11. This project is estimated to be complete in spring 2019. Pedestrian traffic should utilize the asphalt path around Johnson-McFarlane Hall that was installed as part of the original Sie Complex construction. The asphalt drive along the west side of the H1/H2 garage off of Iliff Avenue will be the access drive in/out for construction. The northwest exit from this garage will be unavailable due to its close proximity to the construction site.
Evans Crosswalk Reopens; Driscoll Bridge to Close

The newly improved “Z” crosswalk along Evans Avenue next to Anderson Academic Commons opens today, making the sidewalks on both sides of the street accessible once again. Beginning on Monday, Oct. 22, the Driscoll Bridge will close for the duration of construction on the new community commons building. Pedestrians and bikers are encouraged to use the new “Z” crosswalk on Evans Avenue, or the existing crosswalks at South High Street and Evans Avenue and South University Boulevard and Evans Avenue.
As we near the groundbreaking for the new community commons and new first-year residence hall, fences will be installed around the perimeter of the construction sites along South High Street, Asbury Avenue and Driscoll North on Oct. 22-23. Sturm Hall will remain accessible.
Demolition Along High Street Begins
Oct. 9, 2018
The demolition of six houses along High Street began today in order to make room for the new first-year residence hall. Demolition crews will be tearing down the houses through Oct. 17.
Construction on ADA Ramp at Sturm Hall Begins
Sept. 26, 2018
Construction on an ADA ramp on the southeast entrance of Sturm Hall is set to begin early-November and is estimated to be completed by mid-November.
University of Denver Releases Final Campus Framework Plan

Evans Crosswalk Construction Update

Beginning today, Sept. 4, 2018 - Sept. 19, 2018 the left hand lanes traveling both east and westound Evans will be closed for work taking place alongthe center median at the Anderson Academic Commons crossing. These lane closures will be in place daily from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Beginning on Sept. 20, 2018 work will move to the southside of Evans, which will require the furthest south lane of eastbound traffic to close daily until Oct. 12 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Evans Crosswalk Closed

Construction is underway on an important phase of the Denver Advantage Campus Framework Plan. The pedestrian crossing at Evans is closed for construction crews to work on building a larger and safer crossing for the DU community and our visitors. In addition to the closure of the crosswalk, the sidewalk on both sides of Evans will be closed. Anticipated completion of the new crosswalk is mid-October 2018.
For safety reasons during the construction of the improved Evans Crosswalk, we encourage the community to use the following crossing points:
Pedestrians: Driscoll Bridge
Bicyclists: Crosswalks located at University Boulevard or High Street.
New Transportation Options

This summer, DU launched a pilot program with Chariot to provide a shuttle service to the DU community. Students, faculty and staff can ride the shuttle from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Users can reserve their ride by downloading Chariot’s mobile app from iTunes or Google Play. For instructions on how to operate the app and reserve a ride, click here. By this fall, the University hopes to expand the service to its neighboring communities. Initially, the University will have access to two shuttles, one of which will be ADA compliant.

DU community members can unlock and ride any of the 200 yellow ofo bikes and drop it off at any bike rack or designated parking area on campus.

As part of the construction for the Community Commons, Campus Life & Inclusive Excellence offices and student services in Driscoll North have moved to "the hub" across Driscoll Green, next to the Sturm College of Law.
