Graduates

Make sure you've completed all the items in the graduation checklist:

  1. Fill out your graduation application.
  2. Attend an exit interview with your student loan provider, if applicable.
    • Federal Direct or Stafford Loan counseling is online at StudentLoans.gov.
    • Federal Perkins Loan exit interview is with the Bursar's Office; call (303) 871-4901.
  3. Take the Career Services survey to tell us where you're headed next.
    • The U.S. Department of Education requires us to gather information about the post-graduation plans of all DU graduates. If you're graduating this spring, log in to Pioneer Careers and tell us about your post-graduation plans or update your status on the landing page. Your individual responses will be kept private.
  4. Confirm your mailing address and address any holds on your account in PioneerWeb; this will ensure that you receive your diploma 7-8 weeks after the ceremony.
  5. Arrive for the Commencement ceremony.
  6. Celebrate!

  • Undergraduate Regalia (includes cap, gown, zipper pull, tassel and stole) is $68.00, plus tax.
  • Graduate Regalia (includes cap, gown, zipper pull, tassel and hood) is $72.00, plus tax.
  • Doctoral Rental Regalia (includes rental gown, hood and tam with gold bullion tassel) is $58.00, plus tax. Please note that ALL doctoral sets must be returned to the DU Bookstore after the ceremony.

Students are permitted to wear cords and other adornments with regalia provided they are from University-approved organizations.

What to do at Commencement

Graduating students must arrive at the Ritchie Center no later than an hour before the commencement ceremony is scheduled to begin.

Look for the sign bearing the name of your degree and join the line forming beneath it. You'll be given a card with your name and degree. You'll hand this to the person who will read your name as you walk across the stage to receive your diploma cover. We'll send your graduation photo proofs to your email address within one week of Commencement.

There won't be a place to store any large bags or personal items, so leave those at home or with your friends and family in the audience!

Look for your diploma in the mail (unless you're a doctoral recipient). Verify your mailing address on PioneerWeb, and click the "Student" tab to ensure you have no past-due tickets, payments, exit interviews or other obligations. We'll send your diploma within seven to eight weeks of the ceremony, barring any holds.
