College Access Programs

Day of Action

Day of Action

Day of Action is a campus and community partnership that provides a day-long college experience for elementary school students and their families. As a college access initiative, the program provides an opportunity to explore the DU campus, learn more about college, and participate in hands-on demonstrations for both the students and their parents. Normally, this event is held on the University of Denver's campus, but due to COVID-19 this year, we held virtual panels instead.
On Saturday, April 25th, 2020, DUSC (DU Service and Change student organization) and CCESL (Center for Community Engagement to advance Scholarship and Learning), hosted virtual panels (in both English and Spanish) for future students and families to better understand how to prepare students for college. The virtual panels were recorded and are available here:

While the event is usually on campus, we are excited to offer hands-on demonstrations for students and their parents virtually. We have curated various activities for parents and students to engage with at home to spark excitement in students about college. They are available in Google Drive in both English and Spanish.

2. College Land
3. College Scholarships
4. Debate
5. Volunteering & the Path to College
6. When I Grow Up

We have a call for demonstrators and we need participation from student organizations, faculty members, departments, and anything in between to host classroom experiences that will spark the excitement in students for college. If you are interested in being a demonstrator, please sign up online.

We are also looking for volunteers for the entire or part of the day to help with everything from set up to guides who will illustrate what being in college is all about. A volunteer link and an agenda for the day will be uploaded in 2016. In the meantime for more information, please email

Past Events

On Saturday, May 16th, 2015, The Cultural Center, in partnership with DUSC (DU Service and Change student organization) and CCESL (Center for Community Engagement & Service Learning), hosted the 3rd annual Day of Action for future students and families.

In May 2014, we hosted up to 400 kindergarten–fifth grade students and parents from Munroe Elementary and Smith Renaissance School to help these Denver Public School families better understand how to prepare their students for college. The majority of the visiting students would be the first in their family to attend college. See DU Magazine article or the Facebook pictures.
