Learn About the CWLC


The Center for World Languages & Cultures strives to prepare students to advance their skills to better understand and promote understanding of
cultural and linguistic differences. To promote engaged learning, teaching, and practice of the world's languages and cultures; to integrate languages
and cultures into all disciplines and fields of study; and to build and support interculturally competent communities through the exploration and
experience of languages and cultures at the University of Denver with its local and global communities and partners.


  • To enrich the first-year academic experience through excellence in language and intercultural education.
  • To increase the number of opportunities for students to engage in language and intercultural learning throughout their educational experience at DU through language programs offered in the CWLC and in conjunction with DU's international strategic and priority partners and through integration of language and intercultural perspectives across the common curriculum.
  • To increase the number of students studying abroad in languages other than English.
  • To establish and maintain proficiency standards and coordinate language assessment of across the University's programs and divisions.
  • To provide support for DU's current and future language programs.
