Robin Morgan Outstanding Woman and John Nichols Ally Awards

ABOUT the ROBIN MORGAN OUTSTANDING WOMAN AWARDs

Established in 2001, the Robin Morgan Outstanding Staff Woman Award is presented annually by WAND to a staff woman who goes beyond her job responsibilities to advocate for women in the DU community. In 2015, The Women's Coalition expanded the award to recognize an Outstanding Woman among our faculty, administrators, undergraduate and graduate students.

The award is named for Robin Morgan, a champion of women's rights in the U.S. and around the world, and was a Visiting Professor in Residence at the University of Denver in 1996. During her tenure at the University, Robin organized staff women to foster their professional development and enhance the mission of the University through women's voices and the creation of women's groups. The recipients of these awards reflect the work and commitment to the ideals Robin Morgan embodied.

Robin Morgan is an award-winning poet, novelist, political theorist, feminist activist, journalist, editor, and best-selling author, publishing more than 20 books, including Sisterhood Is Powerful. Founder and President of The Sisterhood Is Global Institute and co-founder of The Women's Media Center, she serves on the boards of many women's organizations in the U.S. and abroad. In 1990, as Editor-in-Chief of Ms. Magazine, she re-launched the magazine as an international, award-winning, ad-free bimonthly periodical, resigning in 1994 to become Global Consulting Editor. Robin is the recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Prize (Poetry) and numerous other honors.
