Scholarships are available to students who want to study at the ELC. There are also scholarships available to international students interested in applying to a degree program at the University of Denver.

ELC International Student Scholarship

Do you want to improve your English and study in the US? We are excited to offer the ELC International Student Scholarship!

The ELC prepares students for academic success in Bachelors, Masters, and PhD programs at DU and other U.S. institutions of higher education. For over 40 years, the ELC has offered international students a unique, supportive, and immersive educational experience.

ELC Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

Students must meet and agree to all the following eligibility criteria in order to be eligible to receive the scholarship:

  • 18 years of age or older, Non-US Citizen with a valid passport.
  • Must be a citizen of any country in South America, Central America, or Mexico.
  • Must submit a completed ELC International Student Scholarship Form.
  • Must be a new student who has never studied at the English Language Center at the University of Denver.
  • Must submit an ELC application and pay the application fee of $75 USD.
  • Must be able to show proof of funds to pay for books/materials, health insurance, housing and living expenses. Examples of proof of funds include a bank statement or financial document. Proof of funds must total at least $7,700 USD for one quarter/term.
  • Obtain an F-1 Student Visa and pay the SEVIS fee of $200 USD.


ELC Scholarship Scope


One student will be chosen to receive the scholarship per quarter. The scholarship will pay for tuition and fees for one quarter of study in the English Language Center. The scholarship will pay for the following:

  • Tuition = $3,800
  • DU Health Services Fee = $200
  • DU Technology Fee = $48
  • ELC Activity Fee (RTD Train/Bus Pass) = $43
  • ELC Program Fee = $30



  • The scholarship only covers the tuition and fees listed above.
  • The scholarship can only be applied to one quarter of study at the ELC.
  • The scholarship does NOT cover airline or travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses, and books and materials.
  • The scholarship is not renewable.
  • If a student chooses to continue to study at the ELC, the student must provide financial documentation demonstrating the ability to pay all tuition, fees and living expenses.
  • The ELC will make the final determination on who will receive the scholarship.


Scholarship Deadlines

Spring 2020 Quarter

These are the scholarship deadlines for studying during our Spring 2020 Quarter, from March 26, 2020 - June 4, 2020:

  • January 17, 2020: deadline to submit the ELC International Student Scholarship form
  • January 20 - 28, 2020: ELC staff will review all submitted scholarship forms
  • February 3, 2020: ELC staff will choose a scholarship recipient (1 student) and contact them by email
