Au Pair Language and Culture Classes

Our Au Pair Language and Culture classes are designed specifically to meet the J-1 Educational Requirements for Au Pairs in the United States.

We are currently offering 4 courses. Each course comprises 36 total hours of instruction and activities.

Au Pairs can take 2 courses to meet the 72 hours required for the J-1 visa. Register today!

Real World Communication

In this course, you will learn to communicate clearly and effectively in English through the use of authentic digital communication sources, such as magazines, blogs, and podcasts. You will analyze, review, and practice advanced grammar structures, as well as a variety of vocabulary, through engaging individual and group activities integrating writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills. The course culminates in a student-created online blog showcasing your abilities to use language authentically.

  • Course dates: July 9, 2019 - August 15, 2019 (6 weeks)
  • Course schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30am - 12:30pm

Strategies for Success

This course focuses on goal setting, planning, and preparation for what you want to do after you finish your time as an Au Pair. In a small group setting, you will be guided by your instructor as you explore your future options, make a plan, and set steps into motion. This can include applying to university, preparing a resume, looking for a job, and more! At the end of the course, you will demonstrate what you have learned with a special project that you can take with you as you prepare for your next adventure.

Looking through the lens: Colorado photography

In this course, you will explore Colorado culture through the lens of your smartphone. Each week, you will visit special sites around the Denver area as you learn more about the history and culture of one of the top-ranked cities in the country. You will discover tricks and tips for capturing striking images that tell a story while also writing short narratives to accompany your images. Your final project will conclude with a digital portfolio that shows not only your artistic eye, but also what you have learned about Colorado culture.

COOKING UP CULTURE

In this course, students will explore the culture of food both in Denver and around the world! Each week, you will dive into the history, production, and enjoyment of food through a variety of lectures, activities, and cooking demonstrations. Grow your understanding of where food comes from, how to make it, and of course enjoy trying lots of new dishes! Students will demonstrate their knowledge by developing a menu, cooking a dish and inviting friends and community members for a shared feast.

  • Course dates: August 31, 2019 - October 19, 2019 (8 weeks)
