CWLC-0050 – Beginners' American Sign Language (CWLC-0050_217114)

This is an overview of American Sign Language (ASL), the third most common language in America, for students with no previous study or background in ASL. We focus on basic vocabulary, structure, syntax, and grammar. Students also focus on mastering the basics of fingerspelling, numbers, colors, facial grammar, and sentence structure; students learn conversational/cultural behaviors necessary to hold a beginning-level conversation in ASL with deaf/hard-of-hearing native users of the language. Introductory information about deaf culture is presented, along with deaf humor, to provide students with a broad picture of ASL language and culture.
