In the past few months, the security situation on the Korean peninsula changed dramatically. While South and North Korea have held 3 summit meetings this year alone, the top leaders of the United States and North Korea met for the first time in history in Singapore in June. During this process toward peace and prosperity, the Republic of Korea and the United States share the utmost importance of close coordination in taking on their three common goals ahead: the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, the establishment of a permanent peace regime on the Korean peninsula, and the upgrading of the relationship between the United States and North Korea.Against this background, Consul General Park will share the latest developments on the Korean peninsula and Northeast Asia and introduce the efforts by the government of the Republic of Korea to bring peace and prosperity on the Korean peninsula.

Park, Joon-yong is Consul General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco since December 2017. He served as Minister at the Korean Embassy in the People's Republic of China from 2014 to 2017 and Director-General for Northeast Asian Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea from 2012 to 2014. He has been a career diplomat for 31 years, serving in foreign mission posts that include, besides China, Vancouver, Myanmar, and Vienna.
