Power to the People: Italian Rap and Activism with Amir Issaa

The Department of Languages & Literatures invites you to a special performance by Italian rapper and social activist Amir Issaa. Issaa addresses themes of citizenship as an activist and artist.

Born and raised in Rome, Amir Issaa is an internationally renowned hip-hop artist and social activist. He’s among the founders of the legendary Rome Zoo, a group of Rome’s rap artists. Collaborating with Change.org, Amir launched an online petition and a song, “Caro Presidente” (“Dear President”), where he invited the Italian president to consider Italy’s law on citizenship. In 2017, Amir published an autobiographical novel, Vivo per questo (Chiarelettere), which was praised by Internazionale as one of the best books for young adults.
