Identity-Based Violence

What is the CRC's definition of Identity-Based Violence?

The CRC conceptualizes identity-based violence using the World Health Organization definition:

"The Intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment or deprivation."

What does the CRC do in regards to identity based violence?

The CRC grew out of an identified need to provide services to those who are exposed to extremist groups touting violence as an answer to marginalization, misunderstanding, and victimization. This need is recognized by local community partners, the Colorado United States Attorney's Office and the Department of Homeland Security. The CRC is focused on efforts to understand the vulnerabilities that might lead someone to be recruited by a group that promotes violence as a solution, and we support survivors who have been targeted based on their race, ethnicity, faith, nationality, or ideology. The project aims to promote insight, healing, and action at individual, family, organizational, and community levels.
