Oncology Psychology Specialty

The Center for Oncology Psychology Excellence will offer well-rounded training via coursework, field placements, clinical supervision, and opportunities for research:

Coursework

COPE coursework will be completed as part of a comprehensive specialty track for students enrolled in the APA-Accredited PsyD program at the Graduate School of Professional Psychology. Students in the COPE courses will be enrolled in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program and they will take the required courses to complete a PsyD degree.

To complete the Oncology Psychology Specialty, students will take at least 15 credits in the specialty. This will include Introduction to Psychosocial Oncology, a year-long clinical seminar, and other electives.
 

Field Placements

Students involved in the COPE program will also complete field placements working with cancer patients. These may include:

  • Outpatient cancer centers
  • Inpatient cancer centers
  • Palliative care and Hospice


Research & Program Evaluation

Students in the COPE specialty may also complete their doctoral papers in areas related to oncology psychology. Other research and program evaluation opportunities are available. Contact Dr. Nicole Taylor for more information.


Community Connections

The Center for Oncology Psychology Excellence has partnered with local and national experts to develop curriculum and training opportunities. The COPE advisory board consists of local professionals with expertise in oncology and psychology training. Clinical Training & Supervision

The Center for Oncology Psychology Excellence will also have a clinical training component on site at the University of Denver's Professional Psychology Clinic. Read more about the services offered through the COPE Clinic.
