Hosted trainings

Denver FIRST operates as part of the University of Denver, and as such is ideally positioned to host a variety of high-quality training opportunities in a professional and welcoming environment. The Graduate School of Professional Psychology, which houses Denver FIRST, is a local leader in providing excellent training opportunities for the larger mental health community. We have hosted multiple events, from small to large, involving a host of mental health topics. Denver FIRST will continue to host nationally-recognized forensic workshops and trainings to interested mental health professionals.

Invited trainings / presentations

The Denver FIRST faculty offers a wide scope of expertise to agencies interested in high-quality training opportunities. Faculty bring years of teaching and research  experience to these trainings, and trainings are therefore interactive, cutting edge, and captivating. Trainings, workshops and presentations are tailored to the needs of the agency themselves. Recent trainings and presentations include:

  • Mental health issues in immigration proceedings (Colorado Bar Association / Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network)
  • Forensic mental health: A review of competency, legal sanity, and violence risk (Federal Public Defense Counsel)
  • The College Gateway Program: A model community re-entry program (Colorado Community Development Association)

Certification and training of forensic professionals

We offer specialized trainings and workshops for forensic evaluators and professionals across the forensic system. This includes trainings for personnel in mental health systems, correctional systems, law enforcement, community corrections, and the judiciary. Our trainings feature cutting edge approaches and content, and they can be tailored to fit the needs of nearly any agency.

Denver FIRST is also uniquely positioned to provide trainings or consultation on the certification of forensic evaluators. Our faculty have experience creating and implementing successful certification systems in multiple states, and evaluators have demonstrated significantly improved reliability and quality in their reports after attending our trainings.
