Working Over the Summer

Hiring for our Summer staff positions has concluded for the 2019 summer. Hiring for the 2020 summer will begin around the end of April, so please check back then for updated information!

Applying for a Summer Staff Position

The Summer Resident Assistant is a vital part of Housing & Residential Education, working in direct service to students. In addition to being a student themselves (you are not required to be taking a summer course, but you must be enrolled as a student at DU for either the previous Spring Quarter or the upcoming Fall Quarter), the Summer Resident Assistant has many different roles, including acting as a leader, a peer counselor, a policy enforcer, a campus resource, an educator, and a positive role model for both students and staff. The Summer Resident Assistant should model strong leadership characteristics such as responsibility, positive attitude, fairness, enthusiasm, flexibility, commitment, integrity, good time management and communication skills, and a willingness to learn and work as a team member. The Summer Resident Assistant reports to both the Resident Director and Summer Desk Manager of the Apartments and will receive direction from several professional staff members for additional projects.

Over the summer, the RA's primary responsibilities include checking residents into and out of their housing assignments, package and mail handling, checking out various desk resources, serving in an on-call weekly rotation, and answering questions.

4 (four) Resident Assistant positions will be available during Summer 2019, with each position working 10-15 hours per week.

A detailed job description is available here.

The Summer Resident Assistant position is a live-in position. Throughout the term of employment, the Summer Resident Assistant may expect to work approximately 15 hours each week, plus carry a duty phone as determined by the schedule, with increased workloads at the beginning and end of the summer quarter.

  • The Summer Resident Assistant must work a minimum of 6 hours a week plus duty coverage (on a rotating basis) in exchange for the on-campus housing assignment.
  • The additional hours worked (up to 9 hours/week) will be paid at an hourly rate of $11.50.
