ISSS Connectors

International Student and Scholar Services is currently accepting applications for ISSS Connectors! Connectors are all about helping new international students in building and fostering community during orientation and their time at DU! There are two supervisory positions available for one undergraduate and one graduate to be a Lead ISSS Connector.

ABOUT YOU

You are either a current undergraduate or graduate (domestic or international) student at the University of Denver and have been an active and engaged member of the university community. You are passionate about learning new cultures and interacting with people.

You seek to create a welcoming environment for new international students whose shoes you were in not too long ago.

You should apply to be a Connector if you want to:

• Interact with others and share your DU experience.
• Build your leadership and intercultural communication skills.
• Make new memories and lifelong friends.
• Have an impact on your community.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A CONNECTOR

• Attend training scheduled for mid to end of May (exact dates to be confirmed based on Connectors' availability).

• Assist with new international undergraduate move-in on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.

• Attend and assist with both days the Fall 2020 International Student Orientation (Thursday and Friday, September 3 and 4, 2020) AND at least one other International Student Orientation during the year. Those selected as a Lead ISSS Connector will be asked to commit to one full academic year of assistance at International Student Orientation (Fall 2020 through Summer 2021).

• Be comfortable leading a group of new international students during International Student Orientation. This includes, but is not limited to: assisting with any questions they may have throughout the day, helping students navigate, facilitate discussions and create activities that build community such as ice breakers within the group.

• Plan and lead evening and weekend programming for international students attending fall 2020 orientation.

• Commit to sending at least one follow-up communication with each of your International Student Orientation group members per month for the new international student's first quarter at DU.

BENEFITS OF BEING A CONNECTOR

• Both graduate and undergraduate ISSS Connectors will receive an honorarium which will be dispersed throughout the ISSS Connector's commitment to the program.

• Meals will be provided at training and the week of International Student Orientation beginning Wednesday, September 2, 2020.

• Develop critical interpersonal/ intercultural communication and leadership skills to add to your resume.

• Undergraduate Connectors will be able to move into residence halls on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 (as long as they have applied for on-campus housing).
