Alumni

Even after graduation, you are still a part of the DU community! Stay connected through the DU Alumni network.

There are four options after you graduate from your degree-seeking program at DU. You can find resources for each option below:

POST-COMPLETION WORK AUTHORIZATION

  • After graduation, students may apply for Optional Practical Training (F-1 visa holders) or Academic Training (J-1 visa holders).
  • While on authorized OPT or Academic Training, remember to fulfill all reporting requirements and stay in touch with ISSS.
  • F-1 students in certain science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields may be eligible for an additional 2 year STEM OPT extension.
  • Utilize the DU Career Center to help you prepare for the job search and read more about searching for jobs as an international student.

START A NEW DEGREE OR TRANSFER TO A NEW SCHOOL

Some students may choose to pursue a new degree, either here at DU or at a new school.

  • Undergraduate students looking to start a graduate degree can find resources on choosing a program at internationalstudent.com.
  • The Princeton Review has listing of graduate and undergraduate programs, as well as advice on application preparation.
  • If you decide to go to a new school, you can transfer your SEVIS record using the transfer out form.

rETURN HOME

  • Many students choose to return home after studying abroad, either to continue to pursue their education or to enter the work force.
  • Returning home can be challenging, and can even come with re-entry shock. You can find tips for dealing with your return home at internationalstudent.com and Go Overseas.

CHANGE VISA STATUS

  • You may choose to stay in the United States with a different visa status. Travel.State.Gov's Visa Wizard can help you find which visa status is right for you.
  • Changing status can be a tricky process. Our general information about status changes is here. If you have more questions after reading that page, you are also welcome to schedule an advising appointment.
