My name is Tyson Guajardo and I grew up in the region of Lake Tahoe right on the border of northern Nevada and California.  However, I have lived in several different nations across the world for much of my adult life.  I obtained my bachelor’s degree in psychology at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where I also studied foreign languages extensively.  At Lewis & Clark I also took part in a year-long overseas program in Munich, Germany that focused on cultural and historical aspects of the country.  After my graduation, I worked as a cultural ambassador at a bilingual institute in southern Spain, a childcare volunteer in Peru, and most recently as a Fulbright teaching assistant in Austria.

I chose the Josef Korbel School of International Studies for my Master’s degree, because of the combination of the academic quality of the program and the community that surrounds the school itself.  I previously visited Washington D.C. to check out a couple of other prestigious universities known for international affairs, but in the end I preferred the structure of Korbel.  Because I majored in psychology at my undergraduate institution, I liked the idea of taking a couple more courses than one normally would in a semester program to get the most out of my international studies education.  I plan to take advantage of the plethora of events and workshops on campus and opportunities to study and intern in either Washington D.C. or Geneva, Switzerland.  The location of Denver itself also attracted me with plenty of internships available with international organizations & businesses as well as the Rocky Mountains close by for great outdoor escapes year round.

My degree program is in International Studies in which I hope to concentrate on European Affairs as well as International Political Economy.  I am a member of the European Affairs Student Forum and Latin American Studies Association.

I am confident that the Josef Korbel School of International Studies is the right fit for me and I look forward to helping prospective students decide which program is best for themselves!
