Humanitarian Assistance Student Amber Prainito

Amber Prainito is pursuing a MA in International Human Rights with a certificate in Humanitarian Assistance at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies.

After completing her undergraduate work, Amber spent two years in Benin, West Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Environmental Action for Food Security sector. She received a grant from the West Africa Food Security Partnership to build a market in her rural village, jumpstarting the local economy and providing new business opportunities, especially for women. She was a member of the Gender Equality and Women's Development committee and headed up the Take Our Daughters to Work program in the south of Benin, funded by the Kate Puzey Fund. She also worked with local populations to mitigate the risks of HIV/AIDS, malaria, poor sanitation, and malnutrition. Amber is passionate about women's rights and gender equality and hopes to return to West Africa to work on these issues.

Amber graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in Political Science.
