What is your favorite LLC memory?

I've made great memories throughout the year but my favorite was seeing a series of plays put on by the Curious Theater Company. It was a good way to support a non-profit organization and the arts, to think about social justice issues through a different lens, and a great exposure to amazing local talent. The plays were all connected and included the same main characters who portrayed a Puerto Rican family in Philadelphia and the issues they faced including PTSD, drug addiction, discrimination, and war. I am so glad we discovered the Curious Theater!

What else are you involved with on campus?

I am a member of the Latinx Student Alliance and I am a Research Assistant at the Pardee Center for International Futures. For the service component of the IGS minor, I am interning for a lobbying firm called Mendez Consulting Inc., I played club ultimate Frisbee during fall quarter, and I will be a Resident Assistant next school year.

Why did you choose to apply to the LLC?

I received information about all the LLC's by mail once I had been accepted to DU and originally I wanted to apply to almost all of them. I thought it would be a wonderful opportunity as a first-year student to get to know others with similar interests and to start college as a part of an organization. I applied to Social Justice specifically because I wanted to learn more about social issues and participate in activities that I really cared about. It's been one of the best decisions I've made because the LLC has provided me with an amazing amount of opportunities: to attend plays and musicals, to attend powerful panel discussions, and to meet my best friends.

What is your favorite LLC memory?

My favorite LLC memory is when we went on our fall retreat in Estes Park. We had a very nice cabin all to ourselves, and after we settled in, we all gathered in the living room area, ate snacks, and had an impromptu dance party. I distinctly remember that moment where we were all dancing and belting out song lyrics as a moment when our LLC as a whole became closer.

What else are you involved with on campus?

I am a tour guide, am part of the Queer Student Alliance, and am a member of the Women's Chorus on campus.

Why did you choose to apply to the LLC?

I chose to apply to the LLC because I took a transformative social justice class during my junior year of high school. I wanted to learn more about social justice issues and felt like the community would be open and accepting for me personally. I also liked the idea of an LLC in general and how taking classes together and living together helps create community.
