The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at DU is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive, high-quality learning experience. The foundation of our program is an internationally recognized faculty that excels in both teaching (many of our faculty have received recognition for their outstanding teaching skills) and in research (a majority of our faculty have grants that are funded by agencies like the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation). Although this is to be expected at a high-quality university, the difference at DU is the particular effort we take to insure that you participate in smaller and less formal classes while receiving the personal attention that can vitalize your college experience. Our faculty are accessible.
All undergraduate chemistry, biochemistry, and environmental chemistry majors are encouraged to engage in a research project under the close supervision of a faculty member. This is often the highlight of a student's undergraduate experience.
Graduate students also interact closely with the faculty and learn in small classes or by individual interaction with their faculty mentors. In addition to the outstanding faculty, DU has state-of-the-art teaching and research equipment. The combination of an excellent faculty, modern facilities and instruments, and close interactions between the faculty and students, provides an ideal learning environment.
