My interests include intrinsic variability in stars as related to stellar evolution, research in archaeoastronomy, especially in the southwestern United States, and furthering astronomy education through outreach.  Over the past 35 years I’ve been an instructor pilot in the military, taught aerodynamics as an NTSB aircraft accident investigator, and while working counterterrorism in over 40 countries, I taught the anti-terrorism assistance program for the Department of State. As an instructor evaluator I also trained diving instructors.  During this time, I never lost my passion for the night sky, eventually completing my graduate studies in astronomy, which I have been drawn to since childhood. As a member of the Denver Astronomical Society, I chaired the public outreach committee and trained new scope operators on DU’s Historic Chamberlin Observatory’s Clark 20” telescope, and served as President and Executive Board member for more than 15 years. I’m a voting member of the AAS and a member of both the IDA and the AAVSO. I have been active in using and maintaining DU’s Meyer-Womble Observatory atop Mt Evans and the Chamberlin Observatory. Decades of teaching combined with my love of astronomy have resulted in the privilege of teaching astronomy at the University of Denver.
