Pioneer era update

Dear Colleague,

The University of Denver is implementing its new electronic research administration system, Pioneer eRA, which will allow DU to improve efficiency in research administration, eliminate paper and shadow systems, and reduce administrative burden for principal investigators, departmental administrators, and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP). Pioneer eRA runs on InfoEd eRA software and is one of leading eRA systems in the industry. The implementation team consists of members ORSP, as well as departmental research administrators and PI's from across campus.

ORSP is already seeing improved grants administration efficiency, including administrative operations which are now completely electronic. PI's, co-investigators, and departmental administrators are able to track the workflow of proposals and grants and receive communications about status changes of proposals and grants through the Proposal Tracking and Award Tracking modules. Additionally, the SPIN database – the world's largest database of sponsored funding opportunities – is available to search for funding. A quick search of proposals and grants, as well as standard reports are also available.

ORSP's next steps are to implement the Financial Tracking (FT) and Proposal Development (PD) modules. FT will support tracking actual expenditures versus budget and completion of proformas. PD will streamline the proposal submission workflow and departmental routing process and will eventually eliminate the current Proposal Review and Approval (PRA) form. PD will be ready in late spring. Training for these and all other components of Pioneer eRA will be offered periodically throughout the year.

It is our goal to make this system as helpful and user-friendly as possible. Your feedback is crucial to this process. In the spring and summer, ORSP will offer opportunities for town halls to gather feedback and discuss any issues or suggestions. Information regarding future town halls and training will be sent via email and updated on our website.
